Amanda accepts referrals from schools for learners who need support beyond the classroom, for example with reading difficulties in the primary grades, low Afrikaans marks in the senior grades, or matric preparation for learners aiming for a distinction or a place on a competitive programme. She has worked both in schools and in private practice.
She has taught at Westville Girls' High and at St Mary's DSG, where she became head of English. She has worked as a remedial therapist and academic support teacher at Highbury, St Mary's DSG, Kearsney College and Curro Hillcrest High. Her private practice has supported learners from Kearsney College, St Mary’s DSG, Thomas More College, Curro Hillcrest Christian Academy, Curro Hillcrest High, Waterfall College, St Charles College, among others, writing the DBE, IEB and Cambridge examinations.
Working with the school
Where families agree, Amanda works with the learner's teachers and learning support staff. She uses school reports, work and assessments to plan lessons, and keeps lessons in line with the school's programme, its assessment calendar and the requirements of its examining body. She is familiar with the IEB and DBE processes for examination accommodations, which schools apply for on a learner's behalf. Parents often ask her to write remedial reports supporting applications to the IEB for concessions such as extra time or spelling.
She is a member of the South African Council for Educators (SACE) and NAPTOSA.
